M1874 Palmer Brace sys. Condition is nice but a little dry. not cracking or such but stiff. A good polish should help. Able to be displayed with ease on a mannequin. This was the M1874 Palmer suspender part of the Hagner belt system. It would hold the packs on your lower back.
Not a favorite with the soldiers and lost favor very quickly. Watervliet Arsenal marked. Also a “A. J Smith” stamp which may be a inspector. I haven’t seen that mark before on one. A great scarcer piece of Indian war equipment.
