BOARD OF WWI BUTTONS ON AIRCRAFT MATERIAL WITH NOTE. The note reads” Buttons taken from Wounded German prisoners at hospital at Vassens (?) They were captured at the Battle of Chemin de Dames (Aisnes) on Oct 22-24th 1917″. May be an American from the type of writing. Apparently, he did not know most were French buttons at the time. The buttons are all looped through the back of what appears to be Airplane fabric? over 70 buttons and German belt holders. The material is like the oilcloth found in US helmets but a much larger piece.
