MESS HALL MEDICAL FOOD TRAY BAKELITE 1945. This excellent food tray is dated 1945 and marked to the US Medical department. Most likely used to serve the wounded patients.  These particular ones were made out of WAR TIME materials and appears to be the leftovers of the M1 helmet liner fabric.  These pieces of scrap would be remolded into trays and other items due to the durability.
