Mess Kit 1880s Tin Private Purchase. Five piece set consisting of the top with 3 cook pots. The final one is the eating bowl you would use. The US did not have a standard Issue set at this time and this was available for the soldiers to buy and take into the field. Well marked on the lid with a light stamp. Also has 1884 and 1888 patent dates.
One of the best early mess kits I have seen from this era and those early wood handle forks fit.
